PORTLAND, OR -- Considering that it was a couple days away from being a rainy Hooters Tour event, the 2010 Dick Points Red Hot Golf Tournament turned out to be a pretty sizzling sporting event.

To begin with, the sun came out.

“Jesus,” Rinker said. “It’s too hot. Where are the f-ing clouds.”

And, yes, the Dick Points ended up with 18 golfers – avoiding Hooters Tour status. But one golfer stood alone on this red hot Saturday in June.

Jeff Albright, with a front nine of 2-under 33 (some people call this “The Zone”), coasted to his first Dick Points’ championship, and his fifth career Tailgate State Tour title. Not only was his net 64 the top score of the day by five strokes, his 75 was the top gross score.

To be sure, the battle was for second after the front nine scores were posted.

Enter the Incredible Tommy Berry. Not only did he frustrate the field with a workmanlike 82 (net 69), he also pissed off some racist old ladies by hitting into their group (allegedly).

Some threesomes were close battles. Group 2 saw Ian Lamont (73), Bob Albright (74) and Jason Wold (75) come down to the wire for the bonus points. As did Group 4, with Dave Charbonneau (76), Andy Rader (76) and Lance Meyerink (77) delivering the goods.

Others were blowouts. Dave Epperson beat Steve and Steve (Beal and Tuebner) by 9 strokes each to win the fifth group. Sean Ealy beat his older brother Randy by 14 strokes, validating Randy’s pre-tournament assertion that their handicaps (22 and 15, respectively) should be switched.

Other highlights of the day include Bob Albright not taking any gimmes – and winning the KP on 15, Steve Beal overcoming a last-place finish to win the LD,  and Rinker heaving his wedge across the 18th green (and then crushing a golf ball across the green).

More guys played well, but read the scoreboard if you want to see what really matters…Points.

Hot Dogs.
