Brett Hamel faced a 15-foot putt for birdie on the treacherous 18th hole at Gearhart while a guy named Keith was getting married on the lawn outside of the clubhouse. The majority of the Tailgate State competitors stood on the veranda overlooking both events.

Brett made his putt and the crowd gasped (the wedding ceremony might have been interrupted). At the time, it was just a great golf shot but it ended up deciding the 2014 Tailgate State Cup Championship, much to the chagrin of runner-up Dave Charbonneau.

Had Brett missed that putt, the aging rocker from North Portland would have claimed his first trophy while fighting through a mysterious illness that left him bedridden for the better part of two days. Instead, the cold-blooded assassin from Arcata drove a dagger into Dave's dreams and took home the trophy for the second time in this tour's eight year history.

There was no shortage of drama as the field played and drank their way through a gorgeous, 90 degree weekend on the Oregon Coast. Most would agree that camera phones should be disabled after midnight and that women in their twenties aren't attracted to men in their forties. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic finish to what was the best season in the tour's history.

Thanks to all on a great year and good luck in your endeavors during the tour's winter hiatus.
