Tommy Berry's GROSS eagle on the third hole (net score: double eagle) and the eight points he was awarded were very necessary and set the tone early in the 2015 Al Fuego Invitational. Berry birdied the fifth and seventeenth holes (net eagles) to account for 18 of his team's 24 points on only three holes. His partner was no slouch, though, as bon vivant Jake Panowicz made crucial pars (net birdies) at the very difficult 12th, 13th and 14th holes to keep his team from sliding back to the field.

Scott Hall and Rich Wold were the only team without a bogey on the scorecard and Hall's birdie (net eagle) on 17 was almost enough to win but gave them plenty of breathing room to hang onto second place. Unfortunately, neither player stayed at the golf course to find out the final scores and their prizes were pillaged and rifled through by the rest of the semi-sober contestants.

Kevin Govro has been fighting the yips all year long but found something he liked and made three natural birdies in the first eleven holes to propel his team to a third place finish. Andy Rader made a net eagle on the 17th hole and resurrected talk of a hole-in-one he might have made at the same hole several years ago in the Al Fuego Invitational. No records of such score are able to be located at this time.

It wouldn't be a TGS Tour event without controversy and this year's incident occurred on the 17th hole. Dann Sonne hit his fourth shot from just off the green and partner Dylan Baptiste hustled to the hole and removed the flag without instruction to do so from Sonne. The ball dropped in the hole but the ever-vigilant Tommy Berry exclaimed, "You can't do that!" and thus, a new catchphrase was born. Thankfully, the two-stroke penalty that was assessed after consulting with the Quail Valley cook/bartender/rules official didn't effect the standings or results in any matter.

Thanks for playing and good luck the rest of the season.
