Thoughts, notes and anecdotes

by Larry King

The golf staff at Gearhart is top notch and a big reason why we keep coming back. Keep up the good work fellas! ... You might not understand them but you gotta love Teubner's convictions: no white food but plenty of white undershirts ... Thumbs up (all three of 'em!) to Juan Sermino's father; ask Dann for more details about this inspiring man ... Thoughts and prayers to Sean who suffered through a self-diagnosed, beer-related case of gout during the weekend. I say: if God didn't want us to use thumb tacks and wine corks as surgical tools, he shouldn't have made them so readily available ... It's no wonder that Rich and Scott do so well with the ladies. It's like the guys from "Night at the Roxbury" grew up and started selling townhouses in Beaverton.

When the ball's above your feet, aim right of the target. When the ball's above your nipples, just take a drop, Jake ... Only two people (Jeff and Nufer) hit the par 3 fourth hole during the course of the weekend. Yowza, that's a tough hole! ... Kudos to Whitney for showing up on Sunday after a rough start to his tournament. Having a hot dog truck on the course might not be necessary next year but it was a generous offer.

Now I know why they call it a "broad" jump: those chumps looked like a bunch of skirts trying to show off their leaping ability ... I'm no Alfred Einstein but I don't think "height differential" will get you through three feet of air space, Jake ... Quite a nice gesture by Govro, offering up an extra large bottle of bourbon to Jeff for organizing the tournament. The way to a man's heart is through his liver ... A number of the usual suspects were absent this year and everything was okay. It wasn't ideal but in my book, "okay" is better than "not at all."

Congrats to Nufer on taking the cup in back to back years. If a fella can break 100 while playing a big slice off the tee and putting with a mini-golf reject, he deserves that trophy.
